October is Cybersecurity Awareness Month, and TruNeighbor Credit Union is proud to join this international initiative to keep our members, data, and systems safer online. Cyber threats are getting faster and smarter. New and evolving technology, such as Artificial Intelligence is accelerating the rate at which hackers can find and take advantage of weak spots in our computer software and systems. That puts our country and economy at risk.
You can protect yourself and your family by taking these 4 essential steps:
- Update software: Install updates promptly! Updates patch vulnerabilities that attackers can exploit.
- Use strong passwords and a password manager: Create passwords that are at least 16 characters, random, and unique for every account. Use a password manager to generate and remember them.
- Turn on multifactor authentication wherever possible: This adds an extra layer of security to your accounts. Use it everywhere it’s offered!
- Recognize and report phishing: Stay alert for suspicious messages. Always verify the sender before clicking links or opening attachments. If you spot a scam, use the platform’s “Report Phishing” tool.
